How to create a decorative ceiling lighting (instructions)

The choice of lighting

First of all, you need to decide what type of lighting you want to do in your room.

The simplest option that can be installed in plasterboard ceilings is the traditional reflector-type incandescent bulbs, which provide high brightness of the light. However, in this case, the brightness does not matter much, and the disadvantages of incandescent bulbs come to the fore - fire hazard and high energy consumption. Therefore, when working with lighting, it is better to find another solution.

Blue ceiling lightsThey can be metal halide lamps, which are well suited for plasterboard ceilings due to low operating temperature, compact dimensions and high reliability. However, even they will not create a uniform light, since they must be installed with a certain step.

In order to create your own beautiful ceilings, an example of which is shown in the photo above, you must use the most modern solutions. It is such an element of the ceiling with backlight is a reliable and economical LED design.

LEDs for drywall are usually used in special tapes, as in the corresponding photo. Because of this, they provide the most uniform illumination, as well as the ability to create complex shapes and organization of decorative elements in large rooms.

LED Strip LightIn addition, the benefits of working with LED backlight also include its incredible endurance - the service life of one diode can be ten times higher than that of incandescent bulbs. It is also necessary to mention the ease of connecting such tapes, the circuit of which is extremely simple.

Mounting construction

First you need to choose the materials that will be used when organizing the ceiling with LED lighting. These include:

  • ceiling gypsum plasterboard;
  • UD profile;
  • CD profile;
  • two-level connector type "crab";
  • suspensions;
  • glue;
  • LED Strip Light.

Doing it yourself is easy enough - you just need to follow the instructions exactly. However, if you doubt the correctness of any step, it is better to check with the training photos and videos that will help you save time, effort and money by preventing serious mistakes.

Ceiling mountingFirst, it is necessary to measure about 10 cm from the level of the original ceiling and draw a line around the entire circumference of the room, using the level in order to get a perfectly flat marking. Along this line we fix the profile UD, which serves as the basis for the main ceiling profile. On it, in turn, are installed drywall sheets, which are fastened with special connectors. As a result, we get one ready level, which can be seen in the photo.

Then we will need to form a two-level framework that will be the basis for our final illuminated ceiling. Despite the apparent complexity, do it yourself is quite simple. To do this, mark the level of the surface of the second level on the wall, and its width on the primary ceiling.

Fixing plasterboard sheetsApproximately at a distance of 50-75 mm from the wall to the surface of the main ceiling we fasten the base profile, and on it the CD profile, onto which the plasterboard sheets will be fixed.It is worth noting that for the ceiling with backlighting it is worth using small pieces of the main profile, which are installed every half meter - they should be along the marking applied to the wall, as in the photo.

After you make such a suspension system with your own hands, you will need to install a basic profile for drywall (CD) of the required length into it. It is on its basis that you will be able to make the second level using sheet veneer material.

Before you carry out the final plating, bring back the wires for connecting the LED strips, which will complete your plasterboard ceiling with lighting.

PWiring for ceiling lightingIn this case, try to do everything exactly as it is drawn on the instructions for working with ribbons - for example, for multi-colored ribbons a connection scheme with your own hands, which is used for plasterboard ceilings, is shown in the following photo.

Follow the rules of working with LED strips - for example, if you want to make a sufficiently long frame with backlighting, it is better to buy the whole product, and not to connect individual pieces yourself.

Purple ceiling illuminationIn addition, the maximum length of the tape should not exceed 15 meters - otherwise the conductive paths may not withstand and it will just burn.

However, if you follow all the recommendations, you can get a great plasterboard ceiling, similar to the one in the photo.
