Soon to study: how to prepare a child for school after the summer holidays?
The closer the beginning of the next September, the more questions parents start asking themselves. How to prepare a child for school in August so that further adaptation will be successful? Is it worth it to study, or give more rest? Can I go to the sea right before the start of the school year? What to consider when buying school supplies? It's time to give answers to these and other questions.
Summer is a rather modeless time for children: they go to bed later than usual, sometimes even after midnight, and, therefore, they get up much later. Parents allow offspring of such liberties, as if giving them the opportunity to have a good rest and sleep off for all hours of sleep lost in school. And there is nothing wrong with this, unless, of course, the child systematically goes to sleep at one in the morning, and wakes up at noon. But if the late waste of sleep and rises continue until September 1, when you want or do not want, and you have to get up early, then it will become stress for the child. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually prepare the child for a stricter day regimen, starting at least two weeks before school.
This does not mean that you need to immediately set a hang up at nine or ten in the evening, and the rise at six - shift the time gradually. First, put the child to sleep 30 minutes earlier (and awake respectively), then an hour, and then two (depending on how much sleep and wakefulness is lost during the holidays).
To prepare the child for the new regime was easier, and nothing prevented him from falling asleep on time, he must fall asleep in a calm state, when nothing can distract him. Try that at least 1-2 hours before bedtime, he would not watch TV, not play computer or mobile games, not listen to loud music, or read comics and magazines. You can read an art book with your child, or just talk to him, ask how his day went, find out what interested him today - so the child will find the listener, share his emotions and impressions with you, and fall asleep much more calmly.
To understand how to prepare a child for school, you need to worry not only about sleep, but also about diet. In summer, children do not always eat on time, run home to have a bite only when they are given free time from walking and playing with friends, eat a lot of sweets like sweets and ice cream, sweeter friends with tasty foods and eat at a party, tear apples from the trees ... there is no question.
Therefore, at least 2-3 weeks before September 1, start feeding children according to the school regime: at least three times a day, at the same time (considering how late the lessons will end), minimizing harmful delicacies and saturating the diet with healthy and tasty dishes with sufficient content of vitamins and trace elements. Games and walks should not interfere with sleep and eating!
Development of communication skills
In all the years, one of the few things that made children want to go to school was a long-awaited meeting with friends after the summer holidays: sharing impressions, an opportunity to find out how someone spent the summer, whether someone changed their appearance, got some new clothes and etc. If your child, even for this reason, does not want to go to school,This may be a problem not only in anticipation of boring and difficult studies. Perhaps the child has problems with self-esteem, he is enslaved, and he has no friends among his classmates. The reluctance to go to school also manifests itself in children who transfer to another class in parallels, or to another school.
If the problem is serious, then it is better to show the child to an experienced child psychologist, but you too can manage to help the child better socialize in the classroom. Fill the rest of his summer with vivid impressions! Go for walks, to the cinema, to an ice-cream parlor, go to the river or lake, have a picnic, ride bicycles, play various games, visit an amusement park, an interesting museum, a zoo. All this will fall into the list of how he spent his summer - actively, intensely, cheerfully - so that it would not be a shame for friends to tell.
- However, it is better not to plan trips to other countries and other climatic zones at the end of August: acclimatization and new impressions will confuse the child when he immediately sits down at school desk and will be forced to quietly, diligently study and listen to the teacher.
Buying a desired toy, gadget or other thing can also be a pleasant new thing for a child, which he can boast in front of classmates and become cooler in their eyes, which is typical of children and even teenagers. In addition, due to the popularity of social networks and the presence of all gadgets (even fifth graders already know how to use Instagram), children need photo evidence of a good holiday.
If your child’s peers live in your house or on the street, encourage them to play together, invite them to your house so that the children can watch cartoons together, cook something, play and chat - this will also help to quickly socialize the team and make it easier to prepare for the school.
Be sure to visit the school "roll call" with your child, which is usually carried out in the last 2-3 days of August. So the child will be able to plunge into the school environment again, walk along the school corridors, sit at the desk, meet with the class teacher, teachers and classmates, but at the same time he will not have to start his studies and sit at the lessons. This will result in such a small rehearsal for going to school, which will help you prepare your child for school and help you adapt.
How to prepare a child for school
Parents often wonder whether they should prepare children for the learning process in August, or let them enjoy the rest while there is an opportunity. In this case, the rule of the “golden mean” works: it is not worthwhile to load the child with the repetition of all materials, but it is not necessary to completely avoid home training.
In the first academic quarter in many subjects, a repetition of the material is provided for, so you can not touch the mathematics, mother tongue and other subjects. But so that the child remembers again how to hold the pen in his hands, spend with him a short dictation that you can find on the Internet, and at the same time check the literacy of your child.
What is better to perform necessarily, at least partially - read the literature given for the summer. Reading develops in the child abstract thinking, fantasy, introduces him to new social situations, so do not avoid this task. Even if a couple of weeks remain until September, read at least one book, or several stories. You can also give at least twenty minutes a day to the repetition of a foreign language, only in a playful way, if the child is in elementary school - for example, using cartoons or funny videos.
Purchase training supplies
And, finally, the most interesting and responsible stage for children is the purchase of notebooks, diaries, pens, pencil cases, backpacks and other school things and little things that will be useful to him in the classroom. Be sure to take the child with you shopping and do not buy anything without his knowledge, especially clothes, diary and bag.
Always give him the right to choose, do not force him to buy what he does not like. Even if you are limited in budget, offer him to choose, say, a pencil case, from three low-cost options. So the child will still have a feeling that he himself has influenced the final decision, he will feel his importance and will look forward to going to school and fill the new backpack with new notebooks, and the new pencil case with new pens and pencils.
We hope this plan will help you understand how to prepare your child for school after the summer holidays, even if there are only a few weeks left before the start of school.
